Trams will run us over here when we don't watch our steps. This is because the trams are the  means of transportation in this city where parking is an absolute horror. Amsterdam is known for the most expensive parking rates in the world. Anyway, we can order a public transport card to make use of the excellent public transportation in Amsterdam.

Bike paths, are almost everywhere in Amsterdam and the Netherlands which are distinguished by their red/brown color and have white bikes painted on the path. Traditionally, Dutch bikes have no hand-brakes, but backpedal brakes. For obvious reasons, lock our bikes to something solid when leaving it unattended, and lock the frame, not just the front wheel. (Otherwise they unbolt our front wheel, take our frame and someone else's front wheel, and have a complete bike)...Bingo! Hu lala..hahaha.  When renting a bike, we will be required to pay a deposit, and we should take some form of identification. A passport seems to make them the happiest unless  we are Dutch and have a local address. Rain gear and good waterproof boots are a good idea if we really want to enjoy our cycling adventures in this beautiful but often rainy city. I fell in love with Amsterdam as i pedalled and explored the city at my own pace....some time ago...

Living car-free is great. No insurance, no repair bills, no gas money. It promotes a healthy green lifestyle that is easily achievable by anyone that is willing to put in the extra effort. The monetary and lifestyle benefits are well worth the sacrifice. More cyclists on the road means fewer accidents. Safety in numbers! Sedentary lifestyle is a major threat to public health. Walking and cycling for transport are effective ways for people to engage in regular exercise with all its commensurate benefits for health. A modal shift towards these forms of transport should reduce car use, thus further improving road safety, and reducing the environmental damage caused by current travel patterns. There would also be positive social and community effects, with greater social cohesion,  higher levels of social capital, and a stronger focus on local communities. All these factors are likely to have a positive influence on health. It's time for cities to put in bike paths to make people feel secure using bicycles as transportation, whether it be for commuting, doing the groceries, or visiting friends.

p/s  when talking about the idea,  maybe we should talk about a bike transforming into a rucksack. It is true that bike are the most sustainable transport system known (unless we consider walking to be a transport system); for this reasons, bikes are more than necessary, and all ideas helping to alleviate the problems a bikers encounters in the big city are welcome, like how to park one´s vehicle  ;-D
