Convention on the Rights of the Child
The Convention deals with the child-specific needs and rights. The Convention acknowledges that every child has certain basic rights, including the right to life, to have his or her own name and identity, to be raised by his or her parents within a family or cultural grouping, and to have a relationship with both parents, even if they are separated.
The Convention obliges states to allow parents to exercise their parental responsibilities. The Convention also acknowledges that children have the right to express their opinions and to have those opinions heard and acted upon when appropriate, to be protected from abuse or exploitation, and to have their privacy protected, and it requires that their lives not be subject to excessive interference.
The Convention also obliges signatory states to provide separate legal representation for a child in any judicial dispute concerning their care and asks that the child's viewpoint be heard
Two optional protocols were adopted on 25 May 2000. The First Optional Protocol restricts the involvement of children in military conflicts, whereby requires governments to ensure that children under the age of eighteen are not recruited compulsorily into their armed forces, and calls on governments to do everything feasible to ensure that members of their armed forces who are under eighteen years of age do not take part in hostilities. This protocol entered into force on 12 July 2002.
The Second Optional Protocol prohibits the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography. It entered into force on 18 January 2002.
A Third Optional Protocol, which would allow children and/or their representatives to file individual complaints for violation of the rights of children, is being elaborated, as of 2010.
p/s I believe that children form a bigger portion of the human rights victims in this ‘world of elders’. Children are ignored in different ways. In developing and under developed countries, the situation is even worse than just ignoring. Child labour, child abuse, camel jockeys are few examples. Even in national and international politics, we never think that what particular impact will it make on children. What role is being played by The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the biggest human rights activist organization Amnesty International?
Children require guidance and sympathy far more than instruction. It is good to realize that if love and peace can prevail on earth, and if we can teach our children to honour nature's gifts, the joys and beauties of the outdoors will be here forever. What's done to children, they will do to society...
Anyway, without going into the details, i wish that everyone would commit that one will work to make this earth a safe place for every child and wishing all the children of the world,
"A Happy and Prosperous Life. May God Bless You Dearest Children of the World "...
